To the Newark Prep School Community,

I am extremely delighted to return to Newark Prep Charter School for SY '16–'17. There were many academic gains garnered last school year and I predict more to come this school year. We have appointed a new Assistant Principal in charge of academics, Dr. Loretta Polhill, who will work closely with students and staff to increase academic proficiency. Mr. Idonije Arumemi will serve in the capacity of Assistant Principal of Climate and Contact. Ms. Alissa Olin return as our Director of Special Education, In conjunction with our new administrators we have two new dean positions - Mr. Shawn Davis is the new Dean of Students with Ms. Sofia Crump serving as the Dean of Culture. In addition, we have hired several instructors who are experts in their content areas;  these highly trained professional are certain to rise to every academic challenge.

I would be remiss if I did not welcome back all of our returning instructional staff who worked tirelessly throughout SY '15–'16 to ensure that your child was provided a stellar academic and social environment. This year, Newark Prep Charter School will implement a Positive Behavior and Intervention System (PBIS). The Positive Behavior and Intervention System in Schools Initiative is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (NJOSEP) in collaboration with the Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disabi lities, and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.   The main goal of PBIS is to create a positive learning environment employing methods developed using current research and practices. The PBIS Team has many events planned for the school year, all designed to encourage positive behavior and instill a cooperative attitude within students, teachers, and staff. Our LEAP Program stands for LEADERSHIP, EXCELLENCE, ACCOUNTABILITY, and PRIDE.

All instructional staff will be responsible for preparing students to be on grade level across academic contents and engage students through on-line and project-based learning. The instructional team is committed to raising the academic bar for each child who enters the doors of Newark Prep Charter School. Parental involvement will continue to be a major focus with family academic nights, evening assemblies, and parental enrichment courses/(such as health care assistance) for the entire family.  Last school year we established the PTO and will continue to encourage parents to be a part of this great organization. It is vital that parents come out to our programs in support of the family-school relationship.

Morning Arrival: Students will enter the front doors of our school building and security will escort them to the dining hall where all students will have social time with their peers.
